The total all-sources handle for Arlington Park's 12-race card on Saturday was a record $20,987,021, an increase of 17% over the record established last year.

The International Festival of Racing card's handle was up $3,073,588 from the previous record total of $17,913,433.

The total includes $20,630,186 in the commingled, which for the first time this year included wagering from Canada, plus $356,835 from France.

On track, the 28,312 in attendance wagered $3,206,659, a $36,868 (+1.2%) increase from the 2004 total of $3,169,791. Attendance for the 2004 International Festival of Racing was 30,414.

"The entire card, especially the three featured grade I races, was so strong that it attracted a tremendous amount of attention and wagering nationwide as well as in Canada and France," said Cliff Goodrich, Arlington Park president. "The field in the Arlington Million probably made it the best race run in the country this year.

"The weather had an adverse affect on the attendance today," continued Goodrich. "In addition, the fact that the abbreviated Summer Festival, with its lower purses, has resulted in lower attendance in the weeks leading up to the Million ... also contributed to the decrease in this year's attendance."

A total of $5,001,147 was wagered on the 2005 Arlington Million (gr. IT), including $4,851,651 in the commingled pool and $149,496 in France. On-track $662,511 was wagered on the Million.
