A part interest in grade II winner Saarland, a son of Unbridled out of multiple grade I millionaire Versailles Treaty, has been sold to a syndicate and the sophomore sire will relocate to Darby Dan Farm to stand beginning with the 2006 breeding season. Saarland, along with Unbridled's Song , are the only two sons of Unbridled currently standing at stud to have won a graded stakes at two. Racing in the colors of Cynthia Phipps, Saarland won the Remsen Stakes (gr. II) as a juvenile. He won or placed in six graded stakes, including a fast closing second, beaten a neck, in the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I) to champion sprinter Aldebaran, who also stands at Darby Dan. Saarland was also runner-up in the Westchester Handicap (gr. III) which was run in a track record time of 1:32 1/5 for the mile, equaling Dr. Fager's North American Record. He retired with career earnings of $595,250. Saarland stood the 2005 breeding season at Hill 'n' Dale Farm, where he covered 120 mares. John Phillips, a managing partner of Darby Dan Farm, said a new stud fee is being determined. Saarland's first in-foal mares will be offered for sale this November.
