Roses in May, last year's Whitney Handicap (gr. I) victor and the 2005 Dubai World Cup winner, breezed five furlongs over Saratoga's main track Friday morning in :59 4/5. "He looked great," trainer Dale Romans said.

Romans the decision to skip Saturday's Whitney was based on a revised training regimen for Rose in May.

Japanese interests purchased more than 80% of the breeding rights Roses in May earlier this year and will stand the horse at stud in Japan next season. The son of Devil His Due   is expected to make his final career start in the Japan Cup Dirt (Jpn-I).

"It wasn't easy, but we just didn't have enough time to get him ready," Romans said. "We pushed his whole schedule back after we sold him and decided to point for the Japan Cup," Romans said.

A logical spot for Roses in May to run at this meet would be the grade II, $250,000 Saratoga Breeders' Cup at 10 furlongs on Aug. 21.
