NFL Stars to Visit Saratoga for Charity

Edited news release

New York Giants Pro Bowl defensive lineman Leonard Marshall and Pro Bowl linebacker Brad Van Pelt, Dallas Cowboys running back Robert Newhouse, Oakland Raiders Pro Bowl lineman Ben Davidson, and New York Jets quarterback Glenn Foley will lead an all-star cast of gridiron greats into the Spa Aug. 7 for the 12th annual NFL Legends at Saratoga Race Course.

Nearly two-dozen former NFL stars will sign autographs inside the main gate on Union Avenue, between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per fan. Proceeds will benefit the Northeast Parent and Child Society.

Fans of the local New York teams will recognize several players from this year's crop of former gridiron stars, including Marshall and Van Pelt, two signature defensive standouts who played together on the 1983 Giants squad that went 3-12-1 under the tutelage of head coach Bill Parcells.

Other former NFL stars slated to be at the Spa on Sunday include New York Giants tight end Derek Brown; New York Jets two-time Pro Bowl running back Emerson Boozer; Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Phil Villapiano; Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Roy Jefferson; six-time Pro Bowl defensive back Erich Barnes, who played for the Chicago Bears, New York Giants, and Cleveland Browns; and many more.

In addition to participating in the autograph signing session, fans can dine with these NFL legends under the Paddock Tent for $75 per person. Tickets may be purchased in advance from Kendall Sherry at 518-346-5224.

The Northeast Parent and Child Society, founded in 1888, is a not-for-profit child serving organization in the Greater Capital Region of New York. Northeast provides a full array of residential, educational, and prevention programs to troubled children and family members in 23 counties.
