Edited press release
Due to increased revenue earned from both the racing and casino divisions, Evangeline Downs announced a 15% increase in purses effective immediately.

"Patrons have shown their approval for both our racing product, which features one of the largest field size averages in North America, and for our new casino which includes more than 1,500 slot machines and the very popular state of the art sports bar Mojo's," said executive director of racing operations David A. Yount.

According to racing secretary Jason Boulet, purse levels for allowance races will start at $20,400, maiden special weight events are worth $19,900, and bottom level $3,500 claimers will run for $8,900, the highest levels in the 40-year history of Evangeline Downs.

Boulet added, "this provides horsemen with an even greater incentive to race their stock as we head into the second half of our Thoroughbred season, the first ever at our new location in Opelousas."
