Sore Pompell Will Miss Mounts Afer Ellis Park Fall

Jockey Thomas Pompell, released from the hospital late Friday afternoon following a spill in the first race at Ellis Park, will miss his immediate mounts at Fairmont Park.

Pompell was named in all 10 races at the Collinsville, Ill., track Friday night.

Pompell was taken to Henderson's Methodist Hospital after being unseated when his horse, Tawney Port, clipped the heels of Opening Dance near the five-sixteenths pole and fell. Pompell was immobilized immediately as a precaution, and complained of lower back pain. X-rays were negative, but Pompell was diagnosed with a bruised right hip.

Pompell returned late in the day to Ellis and complained of considerable soreness. Tawney Port was caught by outriders and was fine following the race.

He is named to ride in the 11th race Saturday at Ellis Park and will make a decision whether to keep that mount tomorrow afternoon.
