The D. Wayne Lukas-trained Grand Reward might have finished third in a conditioned allowance/optional claiming race on the opening day of the Saratoga meeting, but the Hall of Fame trainer has bigger things in mind for the regally-bred son of
Storm Cat.
Grand Reward, out of champion Serena's Song, is pointed toward the Sept. 3 Forego Handicap (gr. I).
"He needed that badly," said Lukas of yesterday's race. "We'll look for the Forego next time out."
Grand Reward is capable of good things. In April, he defeated Eddington and Limehouse while winning the Oaklawn Park Handicap (gr. II).
Lukas won the Forego back in 2002 with
Orientate , who went on to win the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I). Orientate was also named that season's champion sprinter.
