Horse of the Year Point Given came through with his first winner when his daughter Claremont won July 23 at Arlington Park for owner Tracy Farmer. Sent off at 5-1, Claremont got up to win the 5 1/2-furlong race by a neck in 1:04.71. She was bred by Nordic Thoroughbreds in partnership with the Salman family's The Thoroughbred Corp. The late Prince Ahmed Salman raced Point Given in the name of The Thoroughbred Corp.
Claremont is the seventh winner from seven foals of racing age from her dam, Charlotte Augusta (by Chief's Crown). The group includes graded stakes winner Mythical Gem.
Champion 3-year-old male in 2001 as well as Horse of the Horse, Point Given (Thunder Gulch--Turko's Turn, by Turkoman) stands at Robert N. Clay's Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky. His 2005 fee was $50,000.
