Jockey Bravo Suffers Broken Collarbone

Jockey Joe Bravo suffered a fractured left collarbone on Thursday after being unseated from his mount Maid of Sunlight during the seventh race at Monmouth Park.

"He has a fractured left clavicle," said Dr. Angelo Chinnici, medical director for the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority. "He was complaining of shortness of breath, but we were able to rule out a punctured lung, which is common with a clavicle fracture. He'll now have X-rays on his upper and lower back and we should know more definitively either later tonight or by the morning."

Bravo was riding between horses when N' Bearsohmy veered out in the stretch bumping Dice in a Vice, who in turn bumped Maid of Sunlight, unseating Bravo. Maid of Sunlight was not injured in the incident.

Through the seventh race on Thursday, Bravo led all riders at Monmouth with a record of 76-35-43 from 253 mounts, and $2,473,015 in earnings. He is ahead of his closest rival, Stewart Elliott, in the standings by 27 wins.

Bravo missed half of the 2001 Monmouth Park season with a broken leg and most of the 2002 meet with a broken wrist. He has captured 10 riding titles at the Shore racetrack, more than any rider in Monmouth history.
