Trainer Margaret Donnelly Dead

Trainer Margaret Donnelly, the first woman trainer at Detroit Race Course and Hazel Park, died July 9 at the age of 90. Donnelly won more than 100 races in Detroit and at other tracks.
Donnelly helped jump start Thoroughbred breeding and racing in Michigan after World War II and co-founded and operated a sales company for Michigan-breds. She served as editor of
Michigan Thoroughbred magazine.
In 1980, Donnelly moved to Lexington, where she lived for 11 years, breeding, boarding, and racing horses, before retiring to Michigan.
