Broodmare Trishyde Dead
Sixteen-year-old Trishyde, who was a graded stakes winner for B. Wayne Hughes, was euthanized because of complications while delivering a Malibu Moon colt March 2. The colt is on a nurse mare at Hughes' Spendthrift Farm near Lexington.Hughes acquired Trishyde from her breeder/owner Stavros Niarchos and turned her over to trainer Jules Vogel. A 14-length allowance winner at Santa Anita the first time out for Hughes, Trishyde captured the 1994 Fleur de Lis Handicap (gr. III) at Churchill Downs and the restricted Las Potrancas Handicap on grass at Santa Anita in consecutive starts, and just missed winning the Santa Barbara Handicap (gr. IT) by a nose the previous year.Trishyde, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Nureyev out of the Rheffic mare Rose Du Boele, also had been a successful runner for Niarchos. In France, where she had begun her racing career, Trishyde won the Prix de Malleret (Fr-II) and ran second in the Prix de la Nonette (Fr-III). In North America, she placed against males in both the Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes (gr. IT) and Citation Handicap (gr. IIT). For her career, she won six of 16 starts and earned $467,153.As a broodmare, Trishyde produced seven named foals, but only one winner. She also is the dam of an unnamed Malibu Moon yearling colt. Owned in part by Hughes, Malibu Moon stands at Castleton Lyons near Lexington.
