Lightning is landing in the Kent area during a stormy weekend at Colonial Downs where My Typhoon prevailed by a neck over Masseuse in the $200,000 Virginia Oaks.

With Jerry Bailey returning to ride the Irish-bred Giant's Causeway   filly, Live Oak Plantation's My Typhoon turned in an identical effort to her last victory, which came in the Hilltop Breeder's Cup May 14 at Pimlico when Bailey was aboard.

After running third up the Colonial Downs backstretch behind Snug Harbor who set a slow pace (:24.65, :49.19, 1:14.02), Bailey moved My Typhoon to the lead coming out of the turn and held off Masseuse and Javier Castellano, who were charging from the rail. My Typhoon stopped the clock in 1:49.63.

Trainer Bill Mott was in attendance to see his horse win. Mott previously won the Virginia Derby with Orchard Park (2002) and Silver Tree (2003).

My Typhoon finished third in her last start, the Sands Point (gr. IIIT) June 5 at Belmont Park, 4 1/4 lengths behind Melhor Ainda. She has won three of five in her brief career with earnings of $207,830.

My Typhoon paid $7.80, $4.00, and $2.80 ahead of Masseuse, who returned $4.40 and $3.20. Favorite Rich in Spirit (7-5), ridden by Gary Stevens, finished third, paying $2.20.
