Probable favorite Scrappy T won't start in the $300,000 Leonard Richards Stakes (gr. III) at Delaware Park July 17, trainer Robert Bailes said.
The Preakness Stakes (gr. I) runner-up didn't have a good work on the Delaware Park track July 14, so Bailes announced Scrappy T would be scratched after it was determined that he had a muscle problem in his lower back.
"He's about 90%, which is not where we want to go," Bailes said. "It's nothing major. It was enough to throw up the caution flag. We want him right before we run him."
Scrappy T will stay in training and remain at Delaware Park in preparation for a possible start at Saratoga, which opens July 27. The Fit to Fight colt hasn't started since the Preakness, though he has worked twice at Colonial Downs on the dirt.
