Grade I winner You and I, sire of millionaire filly You, and other stallions Golden Gear and D's Bertrando will be relocated to Sue Hubbard and Associates near Creston, Calif., from Blooming Hills near Clements, Calif. Ron and Fran Stolich sold Blooming Hills earlier this year to Pete Parella.You and I has sired 15 stakes winners and the earners of $12 million. You, who was one of the top fillies earlier this decade, captured five grade I stakes, including the Acorn Stakes (gr. I) and Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I), and earned $2.1 million. This year, You and I is represented by California grade II winner Harvard Avenue and unbeaten stakes winner Oh You Again.You and I's big wins came in the 1995 Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I). You and I will stand in 2006 for $5,000.Grade II winner Golden Gear is the sire of Canadian champion and classic winner Ginger Gold as well as graded stakes winner Mr. John and 2005 stakes-winning 2-year-old Twospeed.
Fourteen-year-old Golden Gear (Gulch--Fineza, by Lypheor) has
sired a total of seven stakes winners and the earners of $6.9 million. His 2006 fee is $3,000.Five-year-old D's Betrando (Bertrando--Reason to Be, by Aloma's Ruler) registered the second-highest Beyer Speed Figure among 2-year-olds in 2002. His 105 Beyer came in a 13-length maiden win at Golden Gate Fields in one of his three starts. His fee for next year will be announced later.Another of the former Blooming Hills' stallions, Candi's Gold, has been pensioned. The 21-year-old son of Yukon out of the Captain Nash mare Holmgirl will reside at Sue Greene's Woodbridge Farm near Oakdale, Calif.The 16 stakes winners sired by Candi's Gold include Yougottawanna, who won this year's Seabiscuit Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) at Bay Meadows for the second consecutive year. Winner of the 2002 El Camino Real Derby (gr. III) at Golden Gate Fields, Yougottawanna has earned $671,099. For his career, Candi's Gold has progeny earnings of $13.1 million.As a racehorse, Candi's Gold won the 1987 Silver Screen Handicap (gr. II) at Hollywood Park and battled many of racing's biggest stars. He ran second to Alysheba in the Charles H. Strub Stakes (gr. I) and Super Derby (gr. I). He also was runner-up to Ferdinand in the Goodwood Handicap (gr. III) and to Precisionist in a Del Mar allowance race. In the 1987 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), he finished fourth, 2 3/4 lengths behind winner Ferdinand, with Alysheba second.Bred by David J. and Elizabeth P. Whelan, Candi's Gold won or placed in 16 of 26 starts and earned $876,640. He initially raced for the Whelans in the name Royal Lines and later for them in partnership with the Stoliches and Ted Aroney's Halo Farms.
