Alphabet Kisses Sparkles in A Gleam Handicap

Harris Farms' homebred Alphabet Kisses broke late but quickly recovered to post a front-running three-length victory Saturday in the A Gleam Handicap (gr. II) at Hollywood Park.
The gray 4-year-old filly given a hand ride by Gary Stevens for trainer Martin Jones paid $5.20, $3.80 and $2.80 as the 8-5 favorite while completing the seven furlongs in 1:21 3/5. Valentine Dancer finished second to pay $6.60 and $4.40 and Muir Beach closed gamely for third, paying $6.60
It was Stevens' record seventh win in the A Gleam. Alphabet Kisses won for the fifth time in six starts at Hollywood Park. Jones continued his family's winning tradition. His father, Gary Jones, won in 1993 with Bold Windy, and his grandfather, Farrell Jones, won in 1965 with Kea.
Alphabet Kisses, a California-bred daughter of
Alphabet Soup , has won seven of 13 starts and earned $559,639. She previously won the La Brea S. (gr. I), Magali Farms Stakes and the B. Thoughtful Stakes.
