Kentucky Horse Park Worker New White Horse Award Nominee

Kevin Schulte, whose family owns the horse back riding concession at the Kentucky Horse Park near Lexington, has been nominated to the Race Track Chaplaincy of America's 2005 White Horse Award.

Avoiding a potential tragedy, Schulte calmly, but forcibly directed his team of wranglers as well as park visitors when a barn fire caused a group of horses to panic and race toward untrained riders, including two children riding for the first time.

The fire broke out May 15, in the barn housing the riding concession horses, a few yards from the graves of famous African American rider Issac Murphy and the Thoroughbred, Man O' War.

The third White Horse Award is set for Oct. 27 at Belmont Park's Marquee One Tent, two days before the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships. The winner earns a $5,000 cash prize, sponsored by Youbet.com, a white bronze White Horse Statue, and other gifts and prizes.

The final four nominatees earn all expense paid trips to the BCWTC races, courtesy of Daily Racing Form, and a $1,000 cash prize, sponsored by "Chicken Soup for the Horse Lovers Soul."
