Coolmore Stud in Ireland is big on celebrating St. Patrick's Day. This year, there was another good reason to celebrate in March. It was during that month that the farm welcomed the arrival of Smarty Jones
' newborn full sister. The Elusive Quality
filly is bay, unlike her dual classic-winning full brother, who is chestnut.
I'll Get Along, dam of the full siblings, left the United States for Ireland after she was bought for $5 million by Gaines-Gentry Thoroughbreds at last year's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November mixed sale. I'll Get Along resides at Coolmore and is in foal to farm stallion Sadler's Wells.
Smarty Jones was an easy choice for champion 3-year-old male last year after winning the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) and finishing a close second in the Belmont Stakes (gr. I). He has been spending the last several months standing at stud at Robert N. Clay's Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky., for a fee of $100,000.
