Undefeated Lost in the Fog will be the feature attraction during the annual $1.9 million "Summit of Speed" program at Calder Race Course Saturday when he faces six rivals in the $300,000 Carry Back Stakes (gr. II) at six furlongs.
A 3-year-old Florida-bred son of Lost Soldier
, Lost in the Fog is based at Golden Gate Fields and trained by veteran horseman Greg Gilchrist for Harry Aleo.
The Carry Back will mark the reuniting of Lost in the Fog with regular jockey Russell Baze, who missed the ride aboard the colt in the June 21 Riva Ridge Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) after suffering a broken collarbone in a spill at Golden Gate June 8. Edgar Prado filled in for Baze in the Riva Ridge.
"We're very happy to have Russell back to ride him," Gilchrist said. "He's been cleared to ride three mounts a day starting Wednesday. (Edgar) Prado rode him perfect in the Riva Ridge, but this has been Russell's horse from the beginning."
Before winning the Riva Ridge by 1 1/4-lengths, Lost in the Fog rolled to a 10-length score in the Golden Bear Breeders' Cup Stakes, setting a new track record for six furlongs (1:07.32). His other stakes wins came in the Ocala Stud Dash Stakes, Swale Stakes (gr. II), and the Bay Shore Stakes.
Lost in the Fog will break from post five, carrying 122 pounds.
As for Lost in the Fog's future, Gilchrist said, "If things go well Saturday, we'll stick with the plan for him to run in the (grade I, Aug. 27) King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga and maybe only once more this year, maybe the (grade I, TVG) Breeders' Cup (Sprint), but not necessarily. We'll get through these next two and then decide."
Also weighted at 122 in the Carry Back is Florida-bred Cin Cin. The William White trainee enters the race after finishing second in the Valid Video Stakes in his lone start this year. As a juvenile, the Florida-bred son of Precocity
, won three of five starts, including the Florida Stallion Affirmed Stakes and the Foolish Pleasure Stakes.
Cin Cin will break from post position six under jockey Eddie Castro.
