Guidry Released From Hospital After Mishap

Jockey Mark Guidry was released from Norton Audubon Hospital Monday afternoon following examination for possible injuries suffered in a post parade mishap before the running of the second race at Churchill Downs.

Guidry was aboard the 4-year-old gelding Commander Robin when his mount began bucking in the post parade and threw the 45-year-old jockey to the ground. Guidry landed on his tailbone and was taken to the hospital for observation after he complained of pain in his lower back. He had been scheduled to ride in seven races on Monday, but canceled all of those mounts.

Physicians at Norton Audubon released Guidry and recommended that he take a couple of days off to recover before returning to ride.

Guidry was in third place in the Churchill Downs spring meet jockey standings heading into Monday's racing. He has ridden 41 winners in 167 mounts and trailed only Rafael Bejarano (59 wins) and Robby Albarado (44) heading into the 11-race program.
