The White Fox, breaking maiden over Victory Image at River Downs.
The White Fox, one of only 17 white Thoroughbreds ever registered, got down and a little dirty at River Downs June 30 and broke through with a maiden win in his second career start.
Owned and bred by Patchen Wilkes Farm, The White Fox (
Pioneering--Patchen Beauty, by Hatchet Man) broke in second-place in the 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight event, then rushed up to challenge Victory Image from the inside. Victory Image took a short lead in the final sixteenth of a mile, but The White Fox battled back along the inside to win by a head.
"That other horse started to lean on us, and 'Whitey' got mad!" winning jockey Perry Ouzts said after the race.
The White Fox, trained by Bill Connelly, was quite animated in the paddock until Ouzts jumped aboard. In his career debut at River Downs, The White Fox finished third, unable to rally when the two front-runners set quick fractions and finished up fairly well.
The White Fox, whose white dam also won at River Downs, has his own Web site (www.thewhitefox.com).
