Richter Scale Colt Tops Barretts Sale

A Richter Scale colt was purchased by Berkey Bloodstock, as agent, for $62,000 to top Tuesday's sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age conducted by Barretts Equine Ltd.

The colt, named Immeasureable Force, was produced from the Grey Dawn II mare Fifth Force, had breezed an eighth of a mile in :10 2/5 during Monday's under tack show. Consigned by Mary Knight, the colt was purchased by Berkey Bloodstock on behalf of C. Chinnici.

Barretts reported 107 horses sold for $1,164,300 for an average of $10,881. During the same sale one year ago, 93 horses averaged $13,492 from gross receipts of $1,254,800. The sale median fell to $6,500 from last year's $8,000 figure.

The sales company reported 78 juveniles grossed $958,800, with 29 horses of racing age bringing a total of $205,500. Last year, the 53 juveniles grossed $848,300 and there were 40 horses of racing age sold for $406,500.

Trainer Dale Baird was leading buyer with nine horses bought for a total of $119,700. Knight was leading consignor, with 27 horses selling for $327,300.
