George Washington Honest Railway Winner
George Washington led a one-two finish for trainer Aidan O'Brien in Sunday's Railway Stakes (Ire-II) for 2-year-olds at The Curragh.The Danehill colt, sent off as the 2-5 favorite, won the six-furlong event by three-quarters of a length over stablemate Amigoni. He needed a tap of the whip from jockey Kieren Fallon to keep his mind on business after getting the lead with less than a furlong to go. The maiden Namaya was a head back in third in the field of five juveniles.George Washington broke his maiden in his last start.Owned by Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, George Washington has been made the clear favorite for next spring's Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I)."This horse is class and he is the best around," Fallon told Racing Post. "He has the speed for six furlongs yet we think he wants a mile already." O'Brien notched his seventh Railway Stakes in nine years.
