Valid Expectations Filly Tops OBSC Second Session; Key Figures Decline

Valid Expectations consigned by Costanzo Sales, agent, was purchased by John R. Mulholland for $100,000 to top Wednesday's second and final session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2005 June Sale of 2-Year- Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age.
The bay filly, whose eighth in :10 1/5 was the co-fastest work at the distance at Sunday's Under Tack session, is out of Lovely Amy, by Mining, a daughter of stakes winner Pretty Angela.
OBSC reported 304 juveniles were sold for a total of $5,677,800, compared with 314 horses grossing $7,394,600 at last year's June Sale. The average price of $18,677 was down 20.7% from the June sale record average of $23,550 set last year. This year's median was $11,000, which represented a 31.3% decline from the $16,000 figure n 2004.
The buyback percentage was 29.1%, well above last year's figure of 19.3%.
Wednesday's second-highest price of $75,000 was paid by agent Buzz Chace for Alarming Soldier, a filly by
Lost Soldier consigned by H & H Equine, agent. The dark bay or brown filly, who breezed and eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes placed Hasty Alarm, by Darn That Alarm.
The second session saw 147 horses gross $2,639,500, compared with 140 horses bringing a total of $3,574,700 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $17,956, compared with $25,534 a year ago, while the median price was $10,750 compared with $17,000 in 2004. The session buyback
percentage was 25.7%; it was 20.9% in 2004.
Nine older horses brought a total of $55,900, averaging $6,211, compared with 17 older horses grossing $144,000 and averaging $8,471 last year.
Narvick International, representing the Korean Racing Association, was the sale's leading buyer with 48 head for a total of $443,700.
