English Stallion Polish Precedent Dead
Polish Precedent, sire of the multiple group I winners Pilsudski, Rakti, and Pure Grain, died following complications arising from colic surgery Tuesday night.The 19-year-old son of Danzig out of the Buckpasser mare Past Example stood his entire career at Sheikh Mohammed's Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket, England.Trained in France by Andre Fabre, Polish Precedent raced in Sheikh Mohammed's colors and was French champion 3-year-old miler in 1989. During that season, he won six stakes, including the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp (Fr-I) and Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois (Fr-I).Polish Precedent sired some tough, world-class individuals, with the success of his extraordinary son Rakti propelling him back into the limelight of late. Rakti won this year's Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes (Eng-I) and ran second in the recent Queen Anne Stakes (Eng-I) at Royal Ascot. He won a total of six group I stakes and was a champion in both England and Italy.The best of Polish Precedent's 27 stakes winners was the mighty Pilsudski, who won the 1996 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) and was a grade/group I winner in four other countries. He was a champion in England, France, Ireland, and Germany.Pure Grain won the 1995 Aston Upthorpe Yorkshire Oaks (Eng-I) and Kildangan Stud Irish Oaks (Ire-I).
