Sunday Silence's Son, Eishin Masamune, Sires First Winner

Eishin Masamune became the first North American-based son of Japanese legend Sunday Silence to sire a winner. The Japanese-bred stallion came through with his first winner June 19 when his son, Sunday Romeo, won at Arapahoe Park. Bred in Colorado by Jay J. Holden, Sunday Romeo took command early in the four-furlong race to win by a neck in :46.54 for owner Nye S. Brookover and trainer Harold Thurston.

Eishin Masamune is owned by Holden in partnership with his parents, Arven and Sharon Holden, and stands at the family's Holden Farms near Denver. Arven Holden bought Eishin Masamune for $3,500 at the 2002 Barretts January mixed sale from Havens Bloodstock Agency, agent. Eishin Masamune was sent to North America as a yearling and won three of 11 starts from 1996-98.

Sunday Romeo is one of 14 2-year-olds from Eishin Masamune's first crop. The 11-year-old stallion, who has 16 yearlings of 2005, covered 31 mares last year and is expected to cover about 50 this year. Eishin Masamune is out of the Tosho Boy mare Eishin Gracious.
