Maria's Mon Colt Tops OBSC Opener; Average, Median Decline

Maria's Mon consigned by Gabriel Dixon, agent, was sold for $135,000 to Buzz Chace, Agent, to top Tuesday's opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2005 June Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age. The chestnut colt, who breezed an eighth of a mile in :10 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of stakes winner Dixie Daylight, by
Dixieland Band.
OBSC reported 157 horses sold for a total of $3,038,300, compared with 174 horses grossing $3,819,900 in last year's opening session. The average price was $19,352 compared with $21,953 a year ago, while the median price was $11,000 compared with $15,000 in 2004. The buyback percentage was 32%; it was 17.9% in last year's first session. Eighteen horses sold for $50,000; identical to last year. Narvick International was the session's leading buyer, taking home 28 horses for a total of $255,000.
A colt by
Siphon consigned by E.J. Sipus, Jr. agent, went to Journeyman Bloodstock, agent, for $110,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at Saturday's Under Tack session, is out of Timely Quarrel, by Time for a Change, a half sister to stakes placed Quarrel Over.
Crafty Chip, a
Crafty Prospector colt consigned by Woodside Ranch, agent, was sold to Todd and Sandee Beattie for $95,000. The bay colt, who breezed an eighth in :10 2/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of Chickapee, by Alleged, and is a half brother to graded stakes placed Strike Me Lucky, third in Keeneland's recent Bewitch Stakes (gr. III).
The June Sale continues Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. when Hip No.'s 331-658 go on the block.
