The Louisiana State Racing Commission has disqualified Rapid Proof from his win in the March 19 Mervin Muniz Memorial Handicap (gr. IIT) at Fair Grounds as a result of a positive test for dexamethasone, according to the New Orleans
Times-Picayune.
Trained by Hal Wiggins, who was fined $1,000, Rapid Proof earned $300,000 for owner Dolphus Morrison. As a result of the unanimous decision to disqualify Rapid Proof, the purse will be redistributed to A to the Z, the second-placed finisher who has now been awarded first.
According to the newspaper, dexamethasone is therapeutic steroid that is not permissible for race day use.
The
Times-Picayune reported that Wiggins testified he did not know how horse received the medication and that he did not know if he would appeal the decision.
