(from Del Mar release)"Daybreak at Del Mar" – where good food, a lovely setting and handsome horses all come together – is back for another season with the opening of the 43-day summer stand at the seaside course next month.
Held every Saturday and Sunday between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m., it is presented at the track's Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant overlooking the stretch. There is no admission fee for the morning activities.
Besides a full breakfast menu – featuring omelets, Eggs Benedict, French toast, buttermilk pancakes and fruit salad – racing fans get to watch the horses stretch their legs in morning workouts while receiving racing insights from former rider Jeff Bloom. He informs breakfasters of notable workers on the track, offers tips on how to enjoy a day at the races and answers questions pertaining to the sport.
"Daybreak" began at Del Mar in 2000. It was an immediate success and has expanded each year to handle the large numbers wanting to start their day in the pleasant sunshine and ocean air at the track.
Del Mar's 66th season is from July 20 to Sept. 7.
