Equine Spectrum's online auction of breeding stock will be held Thursday, March 15. The web address is EquineSpectrum.com... Longshots dominated the action at Santa Anita Park on Wednesday, resulting in one winning ticket in the Pick Six that was worth $653,253.60. It was the fifth largest Pick Six payoff in Santa Anita history. Aviate and Mary Kies rallied furiously and dead-heated for the victory in the $83,200 allowance feature for fillies and mares at Santa Anita Park. Aviate, ridden by Isaias Enriquez at 119 pounds, and Mary Kies, Victor Espinoza aboard at 119 pounds, ran 1-1/8 miles in 1:50.95 on a "yielding" turf course. The longest shot in the race at 25-to-1, Aviate returned $22.60, $18.20 and $7.40. Mary Kies paid $4.40, $3.80 and $3.20... The Oak Tree Racing Association has announced that veterinarian Dr. Rick Arthur is the newest member of its board of directors. Arthur has served as president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Southern California Equine Foundation, as well as a four-year stint as vice-president of the Horseman's Benevolent Protective Agency. Arthur graduated from the University of California at Davis Veterinary School in 1976. Joining the practice of Oak Tree President Dr. Jack Robbins immediately after graduation, Arthur has run the veterinary office since Robbins' retirement from full-time practice in 1982.
