Fusaichi Samurai, once considered a leading prospect for this year's Kentucky Derby (gr. I), is scheduled to return to competition Saturday at Hollywood Park in California.
The 3-year-old son of
Fusaichi Pegasus was entered in the seventh race, a six-furlong allowance, by trainer Neil Drysdale.
Last year, Fusiachi Samurai established what then was a world record for a 2-year-old in training when he brought $4.5 million at the Fasig-Tipton Florida select sale at Calder Race Course. Fusao Sekiguchi was his buyer. In his only career race, the colt won a 6 1/2-furlong maiden race by two lengths last December, covering the distance in 1:15.54 at Hollywood Park.
Fusaichi Samurai, was sidelined earlier this year by an injury. He will be ridden Saturday by Victor Espinoza, who was aboard for the colt's career debut.
