Turfway Park regular Jodie Fortner guided Ocean Isle to victory along the rail to win Wednesday's Luv Me Luv Me Not allowance, the Valentine's Day feature consisting of only female jockeys. Patricia Cooksey, once the nation's all-time leading female rider by wins, finished second aboard White Hot. Kris Prather, Turfway's leading rider this meet who recently won with a record six horses on one card, was third with Dare About.
Garden Beauty and apprentice Jennifer Bramblett took the early lead and set early fractions of :22 2/5 and :46 for the first half mile. White Hot assumed the lead entering the stretch and appeared headed to victory before being passed by Ocean Isle, who won by 1 1/2 lengths. Final time for the 1 1/16 mile test over a sloppy track was 1:47 1/5. The winner paid $8.60, $4.20, and $3.00.
For the Luv Me Luv Me Not and any other race won by a female jockey on the 10-race Wednesday program, Turfway will donate $500 to the local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, a national organization dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. Female patrons were also admitted free and every woman through the gates received a flower and pink ribbon from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Turfway also donated $2,500 to the foundation.
