Dance Away Capote Cruises in Go For Wand

(from Delaware Park report)
Pandora Farms' prohibitive favorite Dance Away Capote returned to racing with an impressive victory in the $100,300 Go For Wand Stakes at Delaware Park Saturday.

Ridden by Ramon Dominguez, the 3-year-old daughter of Capote took the lead on the far turn before easily drawing off to a 5 ½-length victory under a hand ride. The Kentucky-bred trained by H. Graham Motion covered 1 1/16-mile distance in 1:47.14 over a good sealed track. She returned $2.80, $2.40, and $2.10 as the 2-5 favorite in the field of six.

Gotta Rush ($5.40, $2.10), with Jose Caraballo aboard, ran second. It was another 1 ¾-lengths further back to Last Toots ($2.10), with Harry Vega astride, in third.

Dance Away Capote, who was scratched from the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) because of a temperature, increased her career record to four wins and a second from eight outings with earnings of $281,950.

"It is nice to get things together again," said Motion. "Scratching from the Kentucky Oaks was very frustrating, but it was just one of those things. We have to do, what we have to do. And we gave her the time she needed to recover. Ramon said she felt stronger than ever, and that is how I felt she would do coming into this race."

Motion plans on running Dance Away Capote next in the $175,000 Susan's Girl Breeders Cup on June 18 and then in the Delaware Oaks (gr. II) on July 16. Both races are at Delaware Park and run at the 1 1/16-mile distance.
