Dashing Lady won the feature race during a rainy night at Emerald Downs and gave Donna Hannity the first training victory of her career.
The 5-year-old daughter of Dashing Writer, ridden by Aldaberto Lopez, took the 6-furlong race for $20,000 claimers over a very sloppy racetrack after a heavy rainstorm during the previous race. Dashing Lady has picked up five of her seven victories over an off going.
"I felt she would be right there," Hannity said. "She's been doing very well. Everything has been going letter perfect for her."
After breaking from the fifth post position, Lopez kept Dashing Lady just off the lead until the stretch. After gaining command, she held off second place finisher Placer Creek by a head at wire.
"I was lucky," Lopez said. "She never gave up."
Dashing Lady finished the race in 1 minute, 10 2/5 seconds and paid $13.80, $6.20, and $5. Placer Creek paid $23 and $6.80, while Joeronohmoe paid $5 to show.
