Graded stakes winner Maddalena figures to be the one to beat in the $100,000 Adena Stallions' Miss Preakness (gr. III), a 6-furlong test for 3-year-old fillies at Pimlico on Friday.

A field of nine is set to contest the Miss Preakness with the Maryland-bred Maddalena the 9-5 morning line favorite.

Trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by John Velazquez, the daughter of Good and Tough has won four of her five starts, including the Old Hat (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park this winter. She won the recent Legal Light at Delaware Park and has proven that she can handle an off track with a pair of victories on sloppy going.

The winner of the Old Hat by more than seven lengths on a fast track in her stakes debut, she carries 122 pounds Friday. Her only loss came in the Stonerside Forward Gal (gr. II) when she wilted to finish fifth after setting a hot pace at odds of 3-5.

Burnish, a daughter of Menifee trained by Nick Zito, gets a crack at graded stakes company in the Miss Preakness after a 10 1/4-length romp in an allowance race at Keeneland on a sloppy track. Rafael Bejarano retains the mount.

Hot Storm, second choice on the morning line at 5-2, will be ridden again by Jerry Bailey for trainer Dallas Stewart. Hot Storm got caught in a pace duel in the 7 1/2-furlong La Troienne Stakes (gr. III) May 5 at Churchill Downs in her last start and finished third. She was third in the Forward Gal prior to that.
