Wando, a Canadian Triple Crown winner for breeder/owner Gustav Schickedanz, was retired after suffering a slight tear in his left hind suspensory during the May 4 Westchester Handicap (gr. III) at Belmont Park. The 5-year-old son of Langfuhr   has arrived back at his home base at Woodbine and later will be sent to Schickedanz' Schonberg Farm near Schomberg, Ontario. Stud plans will be announced later.

Wando, who was produced from the Woodman mare Kathie's Colleen, was Canada's Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male after winning the 2003 Triple Crown. He retired with 11 wins from 23 starts and earnings of $2,563,038. Eight of the wins came in stakes. This year, he went winless in four starts, but managed to place in the Jacques Cartier Stakes.
