Trainer Todd Pletcher reported Wednesday that Bandini, the 19th-place finisher in Saturday's Kentucky Derby (gr. I), sustained an ankle chip and will undergo surgery.

Bandini, the Derby's third wagering favorite at odds of 6-1, shipped to Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky., the day after the race.

"He's got a little chip in his right front ankle and he's going to have surgery," Pletcher said. "Hopefully, we'll have him back in the fall of the year."

Pletcher added that Flower Alley, who ran ninth in the Derby, had already arrived at Belmont Park and that Coin Silver, 12th in the Derby, would ship to Belmont sometime this week. Their next starts have yet to be determined.
