Jay Manoogian's millionaire Kela, a grade I winner and runner-up in the 2004 Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I), has been retired from racing because of an ankle chip.

Bred by Cypress Farms 1991, Kela won last year's Bing Crosby Breeders' Cup (gr. I) and Pat O'Brien Breeders' Cup (gr. II) Handicaps in consecutive starts at Del Mar before finishing second to subsequent champion sprinter Speightstown in the Sprint. Kela also captured the 2004 Texas Mile Stakes (gr. III) and the 2003 Tokyo City Handicap. In what was his final start, he ran third in the Deputy Minister Handicap (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park in February. He retired with eight wins from 26 races and earnings of $1,022,527.

A 7-year-old son of Numerous, Kela is a half-brother to stakes winner Leaveemlaughing. His dam, Bolshoi Comedy (by Sovereign Dancer), is out of stakes winner Left Them Laughing.

Breeding plans are incomplete.
