Wend Wins 'Wildcat in Stakes Debut

Wend won the $150,000 Hollywood Wildcat Breeders' Cup Handicap at Calder Race Course on Saturday for her owner/breeder Claiborne Farm of Kentucky and trainer Bill Mott.

Jerry Bailey was the winning jockey.

Making her stakes debut, Wend, a 4-year-old filly by Pulpit  , defeated Minge Cove by 5 1/2 lengths and covered the 1 1/16-mile distance on turf in 1:40.73. Irish-bred Hymn of Love was third.

Heavily favored at odds of 3-to-5 in a field of 12 fillies and mares, Wend paid $3.40, 3.00 and 2.40. She won for the fourth time in five starts, upping her career earnings to $139,350.

Minge Cove returned $7.20 and $5.80. Hymn of Love's show was $4.40.
