Don't Get Mad, Vicarage Top Derby Trial Field

Grade II-placed Don't Get Mad and Vicarage top the eight-horse field of 3-year-olds entered for the $100,000 Derby Trial on Churchill Downs' opening day card Saturday.

Trained by Ron Ellis, Don't Get Mad could earn a ticket to the May 7 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) with a strong performance Saturday in the one-mile Derby Trail. A son of Stephen Got Even   owned by B. Wayne Hughes, Don't Get Mad has won two of five starts while finishing second in t he San Vicente (gr. II) and third in the San Felipe (gr. II).

Vicarage, a Dogwood Stable-owned son of Vicar, is trained by the red-hot Todd Pletcher. From eight career starts, the colt has two wins and finished second to Derby contender High Limit in the Louisiana Derby (gr. II).
