Equine Spectrum, which launched its online auction sales last December with a sale of 2001 stallion nominations, is planning a breeding stock auction for the second week in March.

Tom Biederman, Equine Spectrum executive director, said the company is targeting "high quality Thoroughbred breeding stock, including broodmares and fillies, or mares selling as racing and/or broodmare prospects. A number of top quality entries have already been received and will form the core group of what is sure to be an exciting auction."

Biederman said one reason for the breeding stock sale is the current strong demand for broodmares and breeding stock. "The ability of Equine Spectrum to hold non-calendar specific auctions, in order to provide further market liquidity, makes an early spring auction a natural fit to the long-term goals of the company and of our customers," he said.

Equine Spectrum was formed by five breeding farms and sales agencies to offer year-round bloodstock transactions via the Internet at http://www.equinespectrum.com.

A 2001 Danzig season was sold for $280,000 to top Equine Spectrum's inaugural auction in December.
