Phipps Stable's Pleasant Home put away the leaders at the eighth pole and drew away to a 5 1/4-length win in her stakes debut, the $153,200 Bed o' Roses Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) for fillies and mares Saturday at foggy Aqueduct.
Ridden by Cornelio Velasquez for trainer Shug McGaughey, the 4-year-old
Seeking the Gold filly came from well off the pace to complete the one-turn mile in 1:36 3/5 on a track rated good after earlier rain.
Sent off at odds of 8-1, Pleasant Home burst past another 8-1 shot, Traci Girl, ridden by Mike Luzzi, for the victory. Even-money choice Cativa, carrying top weight of 117 pounds, finished third, six lengths behind the winner, after giving up the lead to the runner-up with more than a quarter mile to go.
Traci Girl led early, covering the opening quarter mile in :22 4/5 and continued to apply the pressure as Cativa and jockey Edgar Prado completed in the half in :45. Traci Girl was back in front after six furlongs in 1:09 4/5 but she was no match for Pleasant Home in the final furlong.
Actcellent, 17-10 second choice Bank Audit, Childress and Spectacular Moon rounded out the order.
Pleasant Home won for the fourth time in seven starts and earned $95,200, more than doubling her total to $181,350.
The dark bay homebred paid $19.60, $10.20 and $3.80. Traci Girl returned $9.10 and $3.10 and completed a $138.50 exacta. Cativa, who had a four-race winning streak stopped in her last start by Bank Audit in Aqueduct's March 26 Distaff Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIT), was $2.20 to show.
