The Kentucky Equine Education Project is co-sponsoring a horse industry appreciation day and racehorse giveaway April 30 at Lexington's Applebee's Park during a Lexington Legends home baseball game. The giveaway winner will be awarded 10% ownership for one year in Devine Afternoon, a 2-year-old filly, owned by former Gov. Brereton and Libby Jones. In addition to the giveaway, the day will feature a variety of equine-related activities, including a performance by the Kentucky Horse Park's Parade of Breeds and appearances by some real horse industry "legends." All attendees at the Legends game over the age of 18 will receive a ticket. During the evening, tickets will be drawn for giveaways. The drawing for the horse will be the featured prize and will come during the seventh inning stretch."We felt like this was a fun and exciting way to bring attention to the horse industry," said Claria Horn Shadwick, KEEP Executive Director. "The lucky baseball fan will become an instant horse owner and be able to watch the horse as she begins her racing career. The Legends will keep all of their fans updated throughout the baseball season on how Devine Afternoon is performing."Devine Afternoon is a 2-year-old filly by Afternoon Deelites out of Holy Speed. She is currently training at Churchill Downs with trainer Greg Foley. The winner will receive a 10 % interest, which would include 10% of the net profits (if any). After a year, the 10% interest reverts back to Gov. Jones."This new horse owner is getting the best deal - they'll receive a portion of the horse's net profits if it wins, but not be responsible for any expenses," said Jones.
