Tom Simon's Vinery has purchased a majority interest in the breeding rights of millionaire and group I-winning sprinter Saratoga County. Winner most recently of the March 26 Gulf News Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-I), Saratoga County is scheduled to enter stud at Vinery Stud near Summerfield, Fla.
A 4-year-old son of Valid Expectations
, Saratoga County carries a four-race win streak started last fall at Churchill Downs. He began this year with a track-record score of 1:08.99 in the six-furlong Mr. Prospector Handicap (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park, then took the General George Handicap (gr. II) at Laurel. His victory in the $2-million Golden Shaheen at six furlongs came over a field that included top sprinter Pico Central.
Saratoga County has won six of 17 races and earned $1,646,590 for owner Evelyn Pollard and trainer George Weaver. He was a winner at Saratoga first time out as a 2-year-old and captured the Gotham Stakes (gr. III) last spring.
Saratoga County, who was produced from the Grub mare Grub's Dancer, is being aimed for the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) in October.
