Eddie Martin Jr., principal owner of Martin Stables South, has reached an agreement to purchase 180-acre Marablue Farm near Reddick, Fla., from A. Douglas Henderson. The property will serve as the new home for Martin Stables' stallions
Spanish Steps and Conscience Clear as well as the farm's weanlings, yearlings, and horses in training.
The deal is scheduled to close May 20. The 210 acres of Martin Stables near Reddick will serve as the farm's broodmare division.
Martin's game plan includes breaking horses and selling them privately. He added that the farms are only about two miles apart as the crow flies.
Martin, 47, a Thoroughbred breeder/owner for more than 25 years, authored the Indiana-bred incentive program in 1995 and has served as an Indiana state racing commissioner. He previously owned a small farm, Hoosier Oaks, near Ocala, Fla., from 1989 to 1995.
