Apprentice jockey Josue' Arce, 19, a native of Puerto Rico, visited the winner's circle for the first time in his life at Gulfstream Wednesday, one year after arriving in South Florida in pursuit of a career as a jockey.

In Wednesday's first race, Arce came from off the pace to tally by 1 1/2 lengths astride Albino Ross' Wholelotofimage, a 4-year-old filly trained and bred by her owner. She won the first race of her career in her 11th lifetime start.

After returning to the winner's circle, Arce was showered with water from a nearby hose during the first phase of his initiation into the ranks of winning riders.

"This is the dream of my life," said Arce shortly afterward. "To win my first race only one year after arriving here makes me very happy.

"I'd especially like to thank trainer Henry Collazo," said Arce. "He has believed in me since I got here and has taught me everything I know. I'm very grateful to him."
