Sweet Catomine, Sharp Lisa Top Oaks Wager On the eve of her anticipated showdown against males in Saturday's $750,000 Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wygod's champion filly Sweet Catomine remained the favorite among 24 wagering interest in the April 7-10 third pool of Churchill Downs' 2005 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager. The homebred daughter of Storm Cat, who won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) to cap a 2004 season in which she earned an Eclipse Award as America's champion 2-year-old filly, was a narrow 7-2 choice after Friday's second day of betting in the four-day pool. If she wins the Santa Anita Derby and comes out of the race in good shape, her connections have indicated a preference for running in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I).Las Virgenes (gr. I) winner Sharp Lisa followed closely at 4-1 and Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) winner Summerly was the 7-1 third choice in Pool 3. Dance Away Capote, winner of the Bourbonette Breeders' Cup, stood at 11-1 and Davona Dale (gr. II) winner Sis City was a 12-1 shot at the end of Friday's betting. The mutuel field, which includes all 3-year-old fillies other than the 23 individual horses in the pool, was also a 12-1 risk at the midpoint of the pool. Besides Sweet Catomine, other betting interests in Pool 3 will be in action on Saturday. Seven of those horses will compete in the $500,000 Ashland Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland.
