Kingmambo Still Undergoing Treatment

Prominent stallion Kingmambo, who has been sidelined from stallion duty primarily because of an arthritic condition in his lower neck, will need additional treatment and more time off. Veterinarians working with the 15-year-old son of Mr. Prospector at William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm near Versailles, Ky., have extended the April 1 target date for his return to stud.

"The vets think he's improving and getting better," Farish said April 4. "We're going to put off his return for another week."

Kingmambo, who was produced from the champion Nureyev mare
Miesque, is bothered by arthritis in the left facet joint of his C-6/C-7 articulation (at the base of the neck).

Farish added that some breeders who had their mares booked to Kingmambo have chosen to send them to other stallions. Kingmambo's fee is $300,000.

Kingmambo's time off from stallion duty started in late February after he suffered a leg injury while dismounting a mare. Kingmambo, who covered 10 mares prior to that mishap, has recovered from that incident.
