The Shadwell Farm-bred Mustameet defeated Steenberg by a length in the Castlemartin & La Louviere Studs Gladness Stakes (Ire-III) at The Curragh Sunday.
A 7-1 outsider, the 4-year-old bay colt by Sahm
was ridden to victory by Declan McDonogh for trainer Kevin Prendergast and owner Hamdan al Maktoum. Mustameet completed the seven furlongs on heavy turf in 1:32.59.
Mustameet ran out under strong pressure after taking the lead with more than a furlong to go, easing up near the finish. Steenberg was held up while waiting for room along the inside, eventually got through on the rail two furlongs out and stayed on for second without challenging the winner.
Zarad ran third, 2 1/2 lengths behind the winner, followed by King Jock, bred by Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey.
Favored Tropical Lady finished last in the field of nine, eased after tiring with two furlongs left.
The Irish River mare Hamasah produced Mustameet.
