Two Regional Sales Post Declines

Fasig-Tipton Company held regional sales the weekend of Feb. 3-4 and both auctions were down in gross and average from the previous year. Fasig-Tipton Texas held its annual mixed sale at Lone Star Park on Feb. 3. The gross for the 142 horses sold was $568,100 and the average was $4,001. Fasig-Tipton Midlantic held its annual winter mixed sale on Feb. 4 at Timonium, Md. The 145 horses sold grossed $896,800, an average of $6,185.

The gross for the Texas sale was 18% below last year, when 171 horses were sold for a gross of $694,800. The average last year was $4,063. The buy-back rate this year was 26%, with 50 of the 192 offered not sold. Last year, the buy-back rate was 23%.

Top price at this year's Texas sale was $20,000, a yearling colt by Wild Zone going for that amount to Tom Durant. The yearling was consigned by Millennium Farms, agent.

This year's Midlantic gross was down 48% from last year, when 189 horses were sold for a gross of $1,725,500. This year's average was down 32% from last year's average of $9,130. This year, 26% of the horses catalogued for the sale were sold; last year, the buy-back rate was 25%.

Bantierna, a 12-year-old mare in foal to Polish Numbers, was sold for $67,000, highest price at the Midlantic sale. Teresa and John Garofalo purchased the winning Roberto mare, who was who consigned by Litz Bloodstock Services, agent.
