'Moneigh' Exhibit to be Held on Santa Anita Derby Day
Edited releaseRerun and the California Equine Retirement Foundation will present a "Moneigh" exhibit at Santa Anita Park April 9, the same day as the Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), the final West Coast prep race for the Kentucky Derby (gr. I). The Moneigh sale will be held adjacent to the paddock area.A Moneigh is an original work of art created by a Thoroughbred horse, using nose, chin, whiskers, tail or paintbrush. In each case, the artist is a Thoroughbred, assisted by a team of horse lovers who provide the paint, canvas, and motivation, usually in the form of carrots or peppermints.Proceeds from these Moneigh artworks benefit Rerun and CERF. These charities are devoted to saving Thoroughbred horses when they are no longer profitable to their owners for racing or breeding. Donations for these paintings will be tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.Moneighs exhibited will include those by previous Santa Anita Derby winners Castledale (2004), Buddy Gil (2003), Came Home (2002), Point Given (2001) and War Chant, second in 2000.
